Collection: Tamizdat Project
Tamizdat Project (New York) is a research and nonprofit initiative dedicated to the study of emigration and diaspora cultures, state censorship, and banned texts from the Cold War era to the present day.
The project includes a digital archive documenting the first publications abroad of smuggled manuscripts from the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries; public events for students, researchers, and general audiences in New York; academic conferences; an oral history program; a summer school; a library; and a publishing house. Since 2022, the project has also supported students and scholars who have been forced to leave their home countries because of war or persecution for their political views.
